hello

1999 - Present.
This series started with the accidental inclusion of text in to JPG image code. The result was a new, randomly disrupted image each time the file was opened. I continued this process by including journal entries in to the code for the creation of self portraits. I used the results in future work and elaborated with more deliberate compositions. I enjoyed the serendipitous nature of the whole process, so I decided to try and harness it.

Lately, I have been exploring using Max/MSP and Jitter patches (with the help of Harvestworks, Zach Zeldess and Matthew Ostrowski) to further elaborate this process. Using a library of images, the software looks for dominant/recessive colors, composition, date created, etc.. to reformat the images in to new "mutated" results.

The above process has been used to stray away from the idea of using a glitch at face value. I am seeking to manipulate the "glitch" and work the results in to a compositional structure that stretches outside of the digital realm. This process continues and has inspired 2 and 3-dimensional work that can be seen in "The Fallen Sky Chronicles" as well as other installations. I am currently using similar processes to explore and develop spatial environments, architecture and sculpture.

Rollover each image for specifics.
